CLASH OF THE TITANS (UK, 1981)
Directed by Desmond Davis. Ancient Greek mythology, where Perseus battles monsters and dark forces in order to save beautiful Andromeda. Cast includes Laurence Olivier as Zeus, Harry Hamlin as Perseus, Claire Bloom, Maggie Smith, Judi Bowker ,Ursula Andress, Burgess Meredith, et al. Interesting , imaginative special effects by Ray Harryhausen. This is the sort of thing that ought to be laughable --and in part, is -- but , surprisingly, there are moments of beauty, dramatic, poetic and literate bits, along with an intelligent empathy that can take the work beyond color pictures and thrills for the kiddies.
