CONEHEADS (1993)

From the Saturday Night Live characters and skits of better times. Outer-space aliens Mr. and Mrs. Conehead (Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin) settle in Paramus, N.J. They are illegal immigrants and the authorities keep after them, but they get away with it for many years. Although the film is unevenly amusing, its 87 minutes go by pleasantly. More than the special effects and gags, the best humor comes from the locals accepting the Coneheads -- even falling in love with Dad and daughter -- as though the family were exactly like any other. The satire of U.S. bureaucrats is good too. (Edwin Jahiel)
