HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS (1989)

Rube Goldberg Meets the Incredibly Shrinking Man--in spades as shrinking goes much further, down to dots. The contraption of inventor-scientist Rick Moranis accidentally gets focused on his two kids and two young neighbors. Pleasant nonsense is better than expected and far superior to its sequel "Honey, I Blew Up the Kid." The special effects are impressive. They are also protracted with sequences too long, but you can see why: the movie had to maximize its investment in SFX.

Made, of all places, at Churubusco Studios, in Mexico. The kids are quite cute. The film goofed with its title. It should have said "Shrank" yet even the pronunciation of the word is "Shrunk" throughout the movie. (Edwin Jahiel)
