THE TALL MEN (1955)

Post-Civil War western with Clark Gable - on the decline as a star - Robert Ryan, Cameron Mitchell and Jane Russell whose build-up is still incomprehensible : she was no looker, no real sex symbol, no singer and no noteworthy actress. In spite of big names like director Raoul Walsh - also in decline - cinematographer Leo Tover and composer Victor Young, this 20th Century Fox production is quite undistinguished. Its main asset is the spectacle --shot in CinemaScope -- when not chopped up on the TV screen and scaled down . (Edwin Jahiel)
