VIOLETS ARE BLUE (1986)

Jack Fisk directs his wife, Sissy Spacek, in an nice, intimate little film. Spacek, now a globe-trotting photojournalist, visits her small home town of Ocean City, Maryland , meets again her old sweetheart Kevin Kline, now married to Bonnie Bedelia, and a newspaper owner. The old love is rekindled but no permanent changes occur. It's deja vu stuff but not "deja felt." Film captures nicely the awkwardnesses of relationships, with a discreet naturalness and a good use of the locale. A quiet, unrushy movie, strained a bit by a subplot of ecology vs. money interests, but unassumingly done and well acted. The combination of SS, KK, and BB spells OK. (Edwin Jahiel)
